Mrs. Robinson's Disgrace: The Private Diary of a Victorian Lady by Kate Summerscale


'The story of a true-life Madame Bovary and the scandalous trial that rocked Victorian England by the bestselling author Kate Summerscale.' Well, that got my attention.






So.....all I can say is I'm glad 1: my husband doesn't read my PRIVATE journal, and 2: even if he did, and didn't like what he read, he COULDN'T DIVORCE ME. Yes, I am enthralled and enamored of the Victorian era, but there are many, many things that make me glad I didn't live there. That aside, Kate Summerscale's writing and research is stellar.

Lulu's Library #4

Here dear friends is an update from my family's reading. Again, a few (new) favs for Lulu's Library: Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin: TOO FUNNY! This fabulous book is a nearly step-by-step guide to hosting the perfect dragon party. Just make sure you don't forget to serve tacos, because dragons LOVE tacos!!! What Forest Knows by George Ella Lyon (with a nod to Illustrator August Hall!): The best word to describe this book is 'beautiful.' Beautiful illustrations (very, I might add), simple but beautiful text, this book about the changing of the seasons and what the forest 'knows' has become a bedtime favorite, and my little guy loves to point out details of the pictures and discuss them. Check this one out: I'm sure it will become a favorite. Good Night Yoga by Mariam Gates: This sweet bedtime story is written as a series of yoga poses, guaranteed to get your little one interacting, but in just the way you would want them to at bedtime. The Ellie@Home 2020 Summer Reading List

   Good Evening and Happy Memorial Day! This post is far later than I planned thanks to technical difficulties (sob, sob) but here it is, better late than never! The earlier version of this post was wry, witty, and weird, and I don’t recall any of it now on my THIRD attempt. So without further ado (or headaches) I’m going to dive in. I have 34 books for this summer’s list. Because I can’t order from my library, I scoured my shelves for books that I haven’t read or have not finished. I managed to come up with 28. I grabbed one of Josh’s books, and two of Liam’s, then on a whim treated myself to a copy of Caleb Carr’s The Alienist and Angel of Darkness for my Kindle.
